Description
λ An early 19th century Chinese export black lacquer games table, all over decorated in gilt with panels of figures with pagodas, trees and mountains within dragon borders, the top inset with an English Regency chequerboard, penwork decorated with scrolling leaves, flowers and birds, the squares with knights and Turks, revealing a further lift-out reversible games board for blackgammon and chess with ebonised and mother of pearl squares above another blackgammon board, with a pair of full length frieze drawers with turned ivory handles, on turned supports and carved kylin feet and castors, 74.7cm high, 79.7cm wide, 60.4cm deep, together with an early 19th century Chinese Canton 'George III' carved ivory chess set, natural and stained black, the natural king and queen in the form of King George III and Queen Charlotte, the opposing figures in the form of the Chinese Emperor and Empress, 7.9cm high.
