Description

A Chelsea gold-mounted bonbonnière,

c.1760, modelled as three children and a dog playing on a grassy mound, the girl covering one eye as she peeps into a kaleidoscope or similar instrument, the boy who holds it wearing a sash inscribed 'La Curiousité Des Belles', the mound base applied with flowers and leaves, the interior painted with polychrome flower sprays, the gold mount with rococo scrolls and flowers, the hinged lid formed of a panel of polished hardstone, 5.5cm high.
