Description

A CHINESE YELLOW AND RUSSET JADE ARCHAISTIC RHYTON, GONG
MING/QING DYNASTY
The subtly curved tapering body carved in shallow relief with a band of comma-whorls below a band of key fret to the rim, the lower body deeply carved and incised with a bold monster mask, from which issue two short horns which form feet and a tapering elongated horn forming a handle, raised on a wood stand, 13cm. (2)
Provenance: purchased at Me Etienne Ader, Commissaire-Priseur, Paris, 27th November 1965 for 1,856F.
