λ TWO SMALL JAPANESE IVORY OKIMONO

MEIJI 1868-1912

One depicting a sculptor at work seated on a straw mat and surrounded by the tools of his trade, signed Yoshinobu, the other an actor with eboshi (Shinto headdress) and fan, possibly acting the part of Dojoji in the eponymous Noh play, signed Gyokumin, 10cm. (2)

Provenance: the figure of the sculptor purchased from Laura Bordignon on 5th June 2008. A copy of the original invoice is available.
