λ A late Victorian mahogany marine chronometer by Alexander Dobbie & Son, the brass two-day movement with an Earnshaw spring detent escapement with a compensated balance wheel and a helical balance spring, with blued steel screw heads and a silvered dial engraved with Roman numerals, with subsidiary seconds and 'down / up' dials, inscribed 'MAKERS TO THE ADMIRALTY, ALEX R. DOBBIE & SON, 45 CLYDE PLACE, GLASGOW.' and numbered 5/4046, the twin-hinged mahogany case with an ivory maker's plaque and sunken brass carrying handles, 19.4cm high, 18.5cm wide.
