Description
An early 18th century walnut longcase clock, the eight day five pillar movement striking on a bell, to a 12in (30.5cm) brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial and pierced date aperture, with a foliage engraved centre, the silvered chapter ring inscribed 'Zac. Mountford, St Albans,' with cast crown and cherub spandrels, the hood with pierced fret frieze and glazed panel sides above a rectangular waist door with glazed lenticle raised on bracket feet, 80in (203.5cm) high. Restoration to case. Zachariah Mountford at St Albans and South Mimms, apprenticed 1676, free of the Clockmakers Companyfrom 1684 to 1723.
