A LARGE TIBETAN PARCEL-GILT LACQUERED BRONZE FIGURE OF THE BODHISATTVA PADMAPANI

13TH/14TH CENTURY

Standing in tribhanga, his right hand stretched downwards in varadamudra, his downcast eyes inlaid with silver, wearing a dhoti, a five-leaf crown incorporating a small figure of Buddha and elaborate jewellery, his hair in a tall chignon with traces of pigment, 49.5cm.

Provenance: from the collection of Dr J S Gordon, purchased from Spink & Son Ltd, on 11th June 1996, the original invoice is available.
