A late Bronze Age gold ring

circa 1200 - 600BC

the interior and exterior with five encirling ribs,

2cm diameter, 7 grams.

Provenance

Found on farmland near Ripon, Yorkshire, July 1997.

Christie's, Fine Antiquities, South Kensington, 25 April 2001, lot 303.

The ring is composed of approximately 86 gold with smaller proportions of silver and copper. It has been suggested that these types of rings were used as a form of currency.
