λ A tortoiseshell mantel timepiece, with a brass drum movement, with a platform lever escapement, stamped '3171', with the remains of a printed paper label for 'JOHN CARTER Chronometer Maker TO THE ROYALTY 28 ST. SWITHIN'S LANE, LONDON', the silvered dial with Roman numerals, the centre decorated with roses, the arched case inlaid with a mother of pearl basket of flowers, on ball feet, 22.5cm high.
