Description
A small London dry drug or pill jar 1st half 18th century, painted in blue with winged putti flanking flower sprays and a scallop shell above a banner inscribed 'CONF:ALKERM', a rim crack, 10cm high.
Confection of Kermes (a type of insect from Southern Europe) included apple juice, rosewater and sugar as well as occasional exotic ingredients such as lapis lazuli, pearls and gold leaf.
