An Indian elephant goad (ancus), heavy all steel construction, haft 18 in. with faceted top spike, square section at the junction with the hook and here having decorative punched borders, stepped down to the round section grip, domed butt; slightly re-curving diamond-section hook with small inner spur terminating in a rudimentary beast's head, tang passing through the haft and hammered over into a rectangle, probably pre-19th Century.
