Description
A late 19th century silver presentation 'Puss in Boots' dish,
by George Shreeve and Co, San Francisco, circa 1891,
circular form, the centre with a cat sitting in a pair of boots, and embossed 'Puss in Boots', inscribed 'Grandpa to Adolph Sutro Jr. October 1891', diameter 16.8cm, approx. weight 5.2oz.
Adolph Heinrich Joseph Sutro (1830-1898) was a German-American engineer, politician and philanthropist who served as the 24th mayor of San Francisco from 1895 until 1897. It is possible that this dish was given by him to his grandson.
