Description

After the antique. An Italian bronze Grand Tour figure of a drunken faun, holding grapes, a shepherd's crook and a panther skin, accompanied by a goat, the base inscribed 'Chiurazzi Napoli, 70.9cm high.
This bronze is after the original red antique marble statue that can be found in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. It is a Hadrianic replica (117-138 A.D.) of a Greek Hellenistic original. It was discovered in 1736 at Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli.
