Description
A LARGE JAPANESE BRONZE BALUSTER VASE
MEIJI/TAISHO PERIOD
The body rising to a flared rim, decorated in low and high relief with two rabbits amongst tall grasses gazing at the moon, the celestial body inlaid in gilt bronze, the base with a four character seal mark, 40cm.
This design was possibly made after a print by Ohara Koson (1877-1945) who produced comparable depictions of rabbits gazing at the moon.
