A JAPANESE IVORY OKIMONO

MEIJI 1868-1912

Depicting a bijin wearing long robes and carrying a small swaddled baby, the base signed Mitsuyama / Kozan, a paper label underneath reading 'Given by W.H. Carnegie to Mary E. Carnegie in memory of all the family's babies', 19cm.

The label may refer to William Hartley Carnegie (1859-1936), Canon and subsequently Sub-Dean of Westminster, and his wife Mary Carnegie.
