A LARGE AND FINE JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE BY KINKOZAN

MEIJI 1868-1912

The spherical body finely decorated with a dense continuous design of many figures at a tea house, one side with musicians, a dancer and courtesans entertaining guests on a large balcony, a village visible in the distance, the other side with further courtesans and customers, with stairs leading to another room below where more figures stand, some visible through openings in a shoji paper wall, the shoulder and lower portion of the body with a band of millefleurs design, the foot with key fret and the neck with further stylised flowers in gilt, the base inscribed Kinkozan zo and Shozan/Masayama in shaped reserves surrounded by wisteria flowers and leaves, with another impressed mark for Kinkozan zo, 29cm high.
