A CHINESE GILT-COPPER FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI
18TH/19TH CENTURY
Seated in vajraparyankasana, wearing long flowing robes with scrolling borders, the head cast with tight curls, his left hand holding a kapala, his right touching the ground, all raised on a double lotus throne, the base seal detached, 19cm, 926g. (2)
Provenance: according to a letter from Government House, Darjeeling, c.1911, which is available with this lot, the Buddha was removed from the monastery Jantzi (sic.).
