A NEPALESE GILT-COPPER REPOUSSE PRABHA THRONE BACK

18TH CENTURY

The prabha made in three pieces and adorned with fine images in high relief, the top is a Kirtimukha (face of glory), a powerful protective symbol, holding two cobras above, and is flanked by images of Kinnari (half-bird and half-human mythological creatures), who stand on lotus thrones.The prabha is surrounded by a border of flames, the gilded decoration is contrasted throughout with a background of maroon pigment, together with a modern slate stand, 59cm x 50cm. (4)
