A PAIR OF ADAPTED SWORD FITTINGS, MENUKI

EDO 1603-1868

The two pieces forming the bell from the noh play Dojoji with Hannya as a gold dragon coiled around it, with articulated figures of the priest Anchin and a dragon-tortoise underneath, inscribed Fujiwara Bingo no Kami Yoshioka Chozo saku, Tenka Ichi in kinzogan, together with a copy of The Hartman Collection of Japanese Metalwork, Christie's sale catalogue, where these are illustrated, 4,7cm.(3)

Provenance: An English private collection, Surrey. Purchased at Christie's London, The Hartman Collection of Japanese Metalwork, 30th June & 1st July 1976, lot 559.
