Description

A BURMESE LACQUERED AND GILT-MARBLE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI

19TH CENTURY

Seated in dhyanasana, his eyes downcast, the face with serene expression framed by elongated earlobes, the hands in abhaya mudra, indicating the appeasement of sense and the absence of fear, raised on a lotus throne, 49cm.

Cf. H Lafont-Couturier, Les Trésors d'Émile Guimet, p.131 for a related example of an alabaster figure in the collection of Musée des Confluences, Lyon.
