A PAIR OF CHINESE CRACKLE GLAZED 'LION DOG' VASES

19TH CENTURY

Each with an ovoid body decorated with a crackle glaze, painted with lion dogs with cubs, moulded with key fret, ruyi-heads and rolling wave bands to the rims, shoulders and feet, with shou character bands to the waisted necks flanked by applied branches of pomegranates, four character Chenghua marks to the bases, 61cm. (2)

Provenance: from the collection of Hugh, 5th Earl Annesley (1831-1908) and thence by descent.
