Description

A late 19th century Italian Florentine pietra dura centre table by H. Bosi, the circular black marble top inlaid with lapis lazuli and other hardstones with roses, lilies and other flowers and with two butterflies, on a gilt and silvered wood and ebonised base attributed to Egisto Gajani, with a carved dragon support and a triform scroll base inset with three further pietra dura plaques, with a printed paper trade label, inscribed 'H. BOSI, Place St Trinita No. 1 FLORENCE', 79.4cm high, 56.2cm diameter.

Enrico Bosi's workshop was based initially in Via Tornabuoni and later in Piazza San Trinita. He produced pietra dura and mosaics for an international clientele and exhibited at home and abroad, for example at the Esposizione Nazionale Italiana in 1861. Bosi produced works for the House of the Savoy and was a personal acquaintance of Vittorio Emmanuelle II. Egisto Gajani (1832-92) was also based in Florence at Via Borgo Ognissanti and was one of the most celebrated Florentine carvers exhibiting widely at international exhibitions, for example in Paris 1867 and Philadelphia in 1876.
