A CHINESE GREEN-GROUND SILK 'LOTUS' WINTER ROBE
LATE QING DYNASTY
The vibrant green silk embroidered with colourful sprays of lotus and shou characters in gold thread, contained within borders of flowering branches and key fret, with geometric designs to the edges, the interior of the sleeves similarly decorated with lotus and characters on a pale blue ground, with a wool lining, 182cm across, 132cm long.
Provenance: formerly the property of Colonel Vyvyan of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers who brought the robe back from the siege of Beijing during the Boxer Rebellion, and thence by descent.
