Description

A William IV/early Victorian large, silvergilt mounted tortoiseshell snuff box, rounded oblong form with a scroll border around the cover, crested by a canted oblong panel profusely engraved with birds, floral scrolls and trellis work and flowers, the panel hinging up to reveal the miniature portrait of a beautiful young girl (behind glass) with her hair in ringlets by A E Chalon, (apparently unsigned), the box unmarked, 1835-40, 3.85in (9.8cm) long.
