A Regency Scottish needlework sampler by Mary Hay, worked with a large house, birds, urns, deer, a peacock and a proverb from the King James bible, chapter 31, verse 30, 'FAVOUR IS DECEITFUL AND BEAUTY IS VAIN...', with bands of scrolling flowers and inscribed 'JOHN HAY, AGNES GALLOWAY, MRS BARR. AB. CB.' and signed and dated 'MAR HAY SOWED THIS SAMPLER AUGUST 11th 1813', 50.7 x 33.8cm, in a glazed giltwood frame.
