Description
A Medieval iconographic gold pendant, c. 1400, depicting Jesus walking on water next to his disciple St Peter in a fishing boat, within a twisted rope and pellet border, engraved to the reverse MODICE FIDEI QVARE DVBIT ASTI meaning 'O ye of little faith, why did you doubt', in modern yellow gold mount and rubber necklace, 2.7cm high
The image and quotation references the test of faith in Matthew, chapter 14: Jesus walks across stormy waters and tells his apostles not to be afraid. Peter starts to walk on the water but, becoming afraid, sinks and calls for help, Jesus reaches out to him and asks why Peter did not have faith in his to keep him safe.
