Description

A late 18th century double-sided micromosaic ring, probably by Giacomo Raffaelli, depicting a butterfly to one side and a goldfinch to the other, in later gold collectors mount, the plaque 2.9cm high

As the butterfly is allegorical to Psyche, the goldfinch is an allegory of Christianity. The red tip on the bird's head is said to have originated from Christ's blood.
