TWO JAPANESE WOOD AND LACQUER SADDLES, SUIKAN KURA
EDO PERIOD, 18TH CENTURY
Of typical shapes, both decorated in gold and black lacquer, one with a pattern of flowering peonies amongst three turtle shell hexagons, kikko, possibly a reference to the mon for the Asai clan, with details in silver lacquer, the other with further sprays of peonies and scrolling tendrils, 37cm and 40.5cm respectively.
