Boer War interest: an order book kept by an officer of G Company 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders during the Siege of Ladysmith in December 1899, pencil transcripts of orders, announcements and newspaper articles, written in an 'Army Book 153', giving details including: Battalion mobilization orders, allocation of various kinds of equipment and rations, orders issued in Fly Kraal camp, the wearing of kilts, the sale of illicit alcohol, guard duty and the manning of the trenches before Ladysmith, action at Wagon Hill, announcement of the death of Lt. Col. Dick Cunningham V.C., disposal of the dead, and many other matters, giving a fascinating insight into the day-to-day conditions during the seige.
