Description

A George III oak and mahogany longcase clock by Thomas Lister of Halifax, the eight day brass movement with four turned pillars and an anchor escapement striking on a bell, the arched thirteen inch dial with a silvered chapter ring, with Roman and Arabic numerals, with a subsidiary calendar dial with engraved flowers and foliage and signed 'THOS. LISTER HALIFAX', with engraved gilt hands, the moon-phase painted with a sailing ship and a hunting scene with engraved globe details, with gilt Rococo spandrels, the case with a broken swan neck arched hood centred with an eagle finial, the trunk with lozenge bands and fluted quarter pilasters and inlaid with oval paterae, 240cm high.
Provenance: By family repute, Colonel Schletter of The Priory, Orpington, gifted it to the current vendor's family.
