Description

A George III mahogany bracket clock by James Muckarsie of Holborn, the eight day brass repeating movement with a verge escapement striking on a bell, the backplate engraved with a basket of flowers and scrolling leaves, the arched brass dial with a silvered chapter ring, with Roman and Arabic numerals, with a matted centre with a date aperture and a signature plaque, inscribed 'JAMES MUCKARSIE HOLBORN', the arch with a strike / silent dial and with gilt Rococo spandrels, the bell top case with foliate urn finials and with flower and female mask mounts and fish-scale panel sides, with brass carrying handles, 59cm high.

James Muckarsie (Mackarsie) is listed as working in London (47 High Holborn), a member of the Clockmakers' Company in 1784. He died in 1801. His son, George James Muckarsie, was a clock and chronometer maker working in Great Queen Street, London.
