A CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE 'SIXTEEN SONS' OVOID VASE
KANGXI 1662-1722
Painted in coloured enamels with a joyful scene of four concubines and sixteen boys at play in a garden, the base with a paper label for Sydney L Moss Ltd, together with a wood stand and reticulated cover, 20.6cm. (3)
Provenance: from an English private collection, Wiltshire, purchased from Sydney L Moss Ltd on 5th December 1968. A copy of the invoice is available.
This subject is derived from the Shang dynasty story of Jiang Ziya, the senior military counsellor who famously appointed sixteen good generals.
