FIVE JAPANESE WOOD NETSUKE OF SEAFARERS
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
Two carved as a fisherman whose loincloth is trapped in a giant bivalve; two others depicting Benkei blowing in a conch shell, the last an unusual depiction of a mermaid with her children, one clambering over her tail and the other suckling at her teat, some with signatures including Kizan / Yoshiyama, Masakazu, and Tomokazu, 5.3cm max. (5)
