A LARGE CHINESE WOOD CHAMPION VASE

QING DYNASTY OR LATER

Probably aloeswood, carved as an archaistic bird of prey standing on the head of a crouching four-legged beast, they are positioned between two tall cylindrical vessels decorated with archaistic motifs on a leiwen ground, the rims incised with Chinese characters, with a further mythical creature to the reverse, 45.3cm.
