A LARGE CHINESE EMBROIDERED 'MARRIAGE' WALL HANGING
QING DYNASTY
The rectangular textile panel decorated in gold thread with the characters qin se he xie surrounded by a dragon, phoenix, qilin and other creatures, with vases containing peony blooms and bowls of peaches, pomegranates and finger citron (sanduo) to the ends, 83cm x 320cm.
The saying qin se he xie literally means the qin and the se, both traditional Chinese instruments, are playing in harmony. This is symbolic of a husband and wife living together harmoniously in a happy marriage.
