Description

A CHINESE RUSSET JADE 'THREE RAMS' GROUP

MING DYNASTY

Carved as a large ram with two smaller ones jumping at his front and climbing on his back, each animal detailed with two curled horns and a long beard, the stone of a warm orangey-brown tone and with darker areas, 5.5cm.

The image of three rams, or san yang, is auspicious and forms the rebus san yang kai tai, which symbolises the New Year bringing renewal and a change of fortune.
