Description

A William IV Scottish silver tea caddy,

probably by John McKell, Glasgow 1834,

rectangular bombé form, embossed with pagodas and foliate and shell decoration on a matted background, with a lock, the hinged cover with a finial modelled as a seated Chinaman, on four foliate scroll bracket feet, with a pierced foliate scroll apron, engraved with a crest, the interior of the base with a fitting to hold a divider, height 19cm, approx. weight 29.3oz.

The crest is that of Colley (Ireland).
