Description

A George III silver agricultural trophy goblet,
maker's mark worn, possibly by Burwash and Sibley, London 1817,
circular bowl, gilded interior, on a raised circular foot, engraved with a tree and corn, and 'The Prosperity and security of Great Britain', the reverse inscribed 'Presented by the Workington Agricultural Society to John Benn of Middleton Place for Cultivating Common Land', height 10.8cm, approx. weight 5.5oz
The Workington Agricultural Society, were also active on the Isle of Man and were under the presidency of John Curwen (1756-1823).
