A 17th century Italian brandestoc or featherstaff, being a military pick with a well engraved faceted spike opposed by a later hammer head, the hollow leather clad haft accommodating a long retractable spear point of square section, below a small hinged cover, leather recently replaced by Rolls Royce, overall length with spear extended 179 cm (70.5 in.)
