Catalogue Note

It is thought that these models were put in the empty shop window once the meat had been moved to cold storage at the end of the day or possibly they were used as a visual guide of the different cuts of meat that were available. For a similar butcher's shop model sold in these rooms, see Furniture, Works of Art & Clocks, 3rd April, 2012, lot 630, which sold for £22,000 (hammer). More recently a related diorama sold at Stride's, Chichester, 2019, for £14,000 (hammer).
