A MASSIVE JAPANESE IMARI CHARGER

MEIJI OR TAISHO PERIOD, 19TH OR 20TH CENTURY

The well typically decorated in underglaze blue, gilt, red, green, cyan and black enamels, with a complex pattern of chrysanthemum flowerheads and brocade patterns, the cavetto with further flowers and three large dragons emerging from the side, the rim with a band of floral designs in octagonal cells, 61cm.

Provenance: from a private English collection acquired in Yokohama, Japan, in the 1940s.
