A LARGE JAPANESE VASE BY MAKUZU KOZAN (1842-1916)

MEIJI PERIOD, C. 1900

The bulbous body richly decorated with a continuous landscape, the Chinese-style mountainous river landscape rendered in many shades of underglaze blue and green, with details of the moss and leaves rendered in fine raised overglaze enamels and gilt, with thatched huts nestling in the shadows of the mountains, with a double ring to the base and signed Makuzu Kozan sei, raised on a wooden stand and together with a fitted tomobako wood box inscribed Kabin (vase), Seika iroiri sansui no zu, Makuzu Kozan saku (Blue landscape with colour, made by Makuzu Kozan), 31.5cm.
