Description

An early 19th century sardonyx cameo by Nicolo Morelli (1771-1838), depicting Flora or Venus in profile and wearing a pearl necklace, signed Morelli, 2.8cm high
Niccolo Morelli was a Rome-based gem engraver. He was commissioned by Napoleon and members of the Imperial family and it is believed that he tutored Giovanni Pistrucci. Morelli's gems were used by the jewellers Castellani.
