Description

A George III silver two-handled tray,

over-struck with maker's mark of by Crouch and Hannam, London 1793,

oval form, reeded border and foliate capped handles, engraved with roundels and foliate decoration, the centre with an armorial, on four bracket feet, length handle to handle 63cm, approx. weight 93.5oz.

The arms are those of those of Grosvenor impaling Leveson-Gower. Hugh Lupus Grosvenor (1825-1899), baronet of Eaton Hall in Cheshire, Earl Grosvenor, English landowner, politician and racehorse owner. He married Lady Constance Sutherland-Leveson-Gowe, daughter of the Duke of Sutherland and became first Duke of Westminster in 1874.
