Description
A rare Coalport commemorative mug c.1804, painted perhaps by Charles Muss with military motifs, including flags and a pike above drums and other military instruments, above a gilt monogram and below the inscription 'Success to the Bury Volunteers', the sides inscribed 'In defence of our King and Country' and 'To protect our Families & Property', a faint rim crack, 10cm.
The Loyal Bury Volunteers were founded in 1798.
