MID-19TH CENTURY
decorated with the City of London coat of arms, and the insignia of the Lord Mayor combined with the three 'seaxes' of Middlesex, with the motto 'Domine Dirige Nos', on an ebonised ground, unframed

Catalogue Note
It is unusual to have the City of London arms combined with the County of Middlesex. Possibly this panel was used when the Sheriffs of London and Middlesex travelled together formally for certain events, e.g. the Lord Mayor's show.
