Description

A CHINESE CIZHOU 'DEER' PILLOW

PROBABLY SONG DYNASTY

Painted in black with a panel enclosing a recumbent deer surrounded by tufts of grass, with stylised floral motifs to the sides, the design reserved on a cream ground, the base with an impressed mark reading Zhang Jia zao, 27.1cm.

Provenance: Christie's New York, 19th-28th April 2016, lot 26.
