A JAPANESE IRON YOSHIRO TSUBA

EDO PERIOD, 17TH CENTURY

The quatrelobed body decorated with designs of mon, the family crests depicting various flowers, on a ground of pine needles, with details highlighted in brass inlays, unsigned, with a certificate issued by Shibata Mitsuo (Zenkido Hon Kantei), no.13260, dated 2nd November 1994, in a kiri box, 7.3cm. (3)

Provenance: from a private European collection.

The Yoshiro School developed at the end of the 16th and throughout the 17th century. It has its roots in the Heianjo School of tsuba featuring flower and mon designs.
