A JAPANESE IRON KYO-SUKASHI TSUBA

EDO PERIOD, 17TH OR 18TH CENTURY

The circular body decorated in openwork with a design of abumi stirrups, unsigned, with Hozon Tosogu (Sword fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate no.4000627 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (The Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword), dated 28th June 2012, in a kiri box, 7.6cm. (3)

Provenance: from a private European collection.

This tsuba was made in the Musashi Province. Kyo-sukashi tsuba were produced from the Keisho (1596-1615) to the Horeki Era (1751-1764).
