Description
A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE JAPANESE BRONZE VASE
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
Raised on a four-legged rectangular stand decorated with hares running amongst waves and bands of Buddhist symbols, with birds perched on leafy trunks above supporting the main urn; the body of the vessel decorated with two panels enclosing further birds amongst foliage, the handles cast as large flowerheads; the top with a large flattened rim, the apron decorated with tennin flying amongst scrolling clouds, 77cm overall.
